    1. CITIZEN’S PUBLIC SAFETY ACADEMY (August 21 – November 6, 2016)

      The Academy will provide instruction in: Department history, hiring process, community policing, tours of the police and fire departments, fire rescue, fire prevention, fire size-up and fire spread, criminal law, search and seizure, arrest procedures, ethics, Community Service Officers, gang and youth related issues, extrication and air bag rescue systems, patrol procedures, traffic enforcement, firearms, pursuits, high risk car stops, defensive tactics, crime scene investigations, officer survival, crime prevention, drug and alcohol enforcement, dispatch, K-9, fire extinguishers, fire attack, emergency medical services, bicycles, crime scene processing, ethics, CERT, technical rescue, auxiliary volunteers, RADE, CVSA, polygraph, negotiations and tactical team response.

    2. Citizens interested in attending should:

      1. Live in, work in, or be a current student within the City of Grants Pass.
       2. Fill out an application.
       3. Pass a criminal background check.
       4. Participate in at least 9 of the 12 nights.
       5. Be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.

      Approximately 28 citizens will be allowed to attend. This is on a first come, first served, basis....DON’T DELAY, GET YOUR APPLICATION TODAY

    3. Applying for the Academy

          Grants Pass Department of Public Safety Police Division (Located at the Courthouse).
          Grants Pass Department of Public Safety Fire (Hillcrest, Parkway and Redwood)
      Download and fill out a PDF version of the application.

    4. Schedule of Classes

      Academy dates will be on Tuesdays, with one Monday:

      • August 21 & 28
      • September 4, 11, 18, 25.
      • October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30.
      • Graduation on Tuesday, November 6th.
      There will be four Saturdays scheduled for optional classes, to include: Personal Safety (this is hands-on training), fire rescue/attack, firearms and emergency vehicle operations (yes, you get to shoot our guns and drive our police cars and fire trucks).

      Class times will be 6:00 PM - 9:30 PM and the classes will be held at either the Hillcrest Fire Station, or Parkway Fire Station. Beverages and snacks will be provided at each class. Questions: Contact Ofc. Ken Frownfelter, 541-450-6245, or Kelly Busch, 450-6200.
