Fire Prevention Division

The Department of Public Safety is committed to the development and perpetuation of community crime prevention and fire prevention programs.

Fire Prevention is under the direct supervision of Fire Marshal Joe Hyatt. Tim Stacy and Michael Meyer are the Fire Inspectors for the City of Grants Pass. Kelly Busch is the Prevention Program Office Assistant.

Fire Prevention Duties

The Fire Prevention Division is responsible for:

  • conducting fire and life safety compliance inspections in businesses
  • performing origin and cause fire investigations
  • providing public education encompassing all aspects of fire and life safety issues
  • issuing fire code permits and conducting related inspections
  • reviewing land development projects for access and water supply requirements
  • conducting plan review and inspections for fire protection systems in both new and existing buildings

The Fire Prevention Division works under the authority of the State Fire Marshal.

Fire Safety at Home

Many outside fires in Oregon are caused by improper debris burning or sparks from power equipment use.

Recreational Fires

Recreational fires (for cooking or recreational purposes only) are allowed in the City of Grants Pass provided the rules and regulations on the linked pamphlet are followed.
