Tree Programs

Memorial Tree Program

This program gives residents the opportunity to honor an individual by donating a tree to be planted within a memorial grove in a City park.

The trees cost $100. A planting ceremony, to which donors are invited, is held during Arbor Week in April.

To donate a tree, fill out and submit the Memorial Tree application (PDF).

The Grants Pass Urban Tree Advisory Committee promotes the value of urban trees in Grants Pass.

Tree Canopy Program

2020 Season Tree Canopy Program - S Simpson Swamp White OakThis annual program gives up to 50 city residents the opportunity to purchase a tree from an annually selected list of trees for $50. This includes the tree and planting - a $425 value! Trees can be planted in front yards or the public right-of-way in front of the owner’s property. Side yards that front public streets (e.g. the side yard of a corner property lot) are also eligible. Trees can only be planted within city limits.

The City’s urban forester will meet onsite before planting to confirm the location. When choosing where to plant, think of proper spacing from buildings, other trees, and utilities (water, sewer, gas, electric, etc.). Trees are planted in December by the City’s Parks Division. All you need to do is maintain the tree, which includes watering it at least once per week during the first three growing seasons (April through October). Elm Tree on Meier Tree Canopy Program

This program is part of our City’s goal to continue to be designated Tree City USA and improve our urban forest. Trees add many benefits to your property and neighborhood, including stormwater interception and increased property values. For more information on the benefits of trees, check out https://www.treesaregood.org/treeowner/benefitsoftrees

To apply for your tree, please download the Tree Canopy Application and submit it by October 13, 2023.

Hazardous Tree Program

This program assists property owners with dangerous situations involving trees in the right-of-way. If you have a tree in the city right-of-way that has become hazardous, fill out the Tree Permit application before taking action. The City will inspect the tree free of cost. If it determines that the tree is hazardous, the City will cover up to 50% of the total cost for the removal of the hazardous tree, stump grinding, and replacement with an approved tree within the city right-of-way.

See the Hazardous Tree Program page for more details.
