COMMENTS Fast growing evergreen oak with thick, corky bark. Mainly found in California in the United States, but a great option for the Beaver State. This tree comes from the Mediterranean basin, where the Romans sourced the cork for a whole host of products. Requires well-drained, acidic soils, and full sun. The cork oak at the Grants Pass Water Filtration Plant is a Heritage Tree (approved by City Council in 2021). OSU: "Prefers good drainage, tolerant of different soil types. Established trees drought resistant. It is the National Tree of Portugal which produces about half of the world's commercial cork." Features: evergreen, wildlife. Full sun.
