COMMENTS Faster growing conifer with soft awl shaped deep green needles and a naturally narrow shape. Does well in a wide range of soils and is moderately drought tolerant. An outstanding tree that should be planted more. A good substitute for Leyland cypress. OK to prune for clearance. Surface roots are normally not a problem. Preferred cultivars: 'Yoshino' and 'Sekkan Sugi.' Denser canopy cultivar: 'Radicans.' Avoid short cultivars like 'Black Dragon.' Other cultivers subject to approval from Urban Forester. Features: evergreen. Full sun to partial shade.
