Student Police Academy

The Student Police Academy is a semester-long elective course offered at Grants Pass High School to Junior and Senior students. Officers, Dispatchers, and Supervisors come into the classroom and teach the students a wide variety of topics in an effort to enlighten and educate the students on the intricacies of working in the Police realm.

Topics

The classes last 45 minutes each and are offered every school day for 18 weeks. The topics taught include, but are not limited to:

  • Criminal and narcotics investigations and crime scene processing
  • Criminal law
  • Emergency medical services
  • Ethics
  • Hiring process
  • Juvenile issues
  • K-9
  • Officer survival and personal safety
  • Polygraph
  • Rapid intervention team
  • Report Writing
  • Specialty teams
  • Traffic

Expectations

Students are expected to maintain a daily journal, complete instructor and topic evaluations, participate in class, pass written examinations, and complete a class project.
