[ARCHIVED] Two new grant programs available to downtown merchants.

The City of Grants Pass is pleased to announce it has two new grant incentive programs available.  These programs are available to merchants in the Central Business District and the 6th and 7th Street thoroughfare.

The Light the Storefronts Grant Incentive Program is available to downtown merchants and the Central Business District.

The City of Grants Pass has a vibrant downtown and the local merchants and small business entrepreneurs are working hard to improve the downtown shopping experience. One of the things that makes for a vibrant downtown is lighting. Illuminating the storefronts to show off merchandise at night while the city is still bustling with local diners, creates an atmosphere for window-shopping. Storefront lighting in place when a business is closed gives locals and tourist alike an added sense of safety. Encouraging downtown merchants to improve the aesthetics of their storefronts will be beneficial to citizens in addition to attracting tourism.

The Building Façade Matching Grant Fund Program available to the Central Business District and along the 6th and 7th street thoroughfare.

Grants Pass possesses a unique downtown environment that centers on a historic district with buildings that date back to the turn of the 20th century.  These buildings represent an aesthetic that gives the downtown its character and charm; however, older buildings present maintenance issues that are expensive and seldom are they current with building and safety codes.

The purpose of the Grants Pass Façade Improvement Grant Fund is to provide grants for the restoration/renovation of these buildings and others in designated areas within the City of Grants Pass to increase the overall appearance as well as potential usability and aesthetic of those structures.

It is the intent of the City to encourage property owners of commercial buildings to restore the exterior facades of the building to the original design and character.  This program has the potential to upgrade the physical and economic characteristics of the downtown by improving the value of buildings on major thoroughfares in the Grants Pass Historic District.

Both of these grants are available on a first come, first served basis, as funds are limited.
