GRANTS PASS – Members of the community are invited to take a brief survey to assist the City of Grants Pass with improving its Geographic Information System (GIS). The survey can be found at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LZRBPC5.

GIS software and geographic databases (geodatabases) represent features on the earth, such as buildings, site addresses, utility systems, city boundaries, and roads. GIS is a tool used by individuals and organizations, schools, governments, and businesses seeking innovative ways to solve problems.

“We invite the community to take a brief survey to identify strengths and weaknesses of the current state of GIS at the City of Grants Pass,” said Public Works Director Jason Canady. “The outcome of this project is ultimately meant to benefit the public, which means their active participation is a chance for them to help us help them,” he said.

Even if a resident has never used the City’s GIS before, Canady said his departments wants to “hear from you about your GIS-related needs.” To that end, he would like citizens to provide input via the online survey.

“It will help us identify and prioritize opportunities for the city to improve GIS capabilities and services for staff, residents and businesses,” said Canady.

The survey must be completed by Friday, Dec. 20.

Residents can learn more about GIS by visiting the City’s website: https://www.grantspassoregon.gov/908/What-is-GIS.
