GRANTS PASS – The City of Grants Pass Committee on Public Art (CoPA) invites artists 18 years of age and older to submit original artwork for Art in Motion, a mobile art display attached to a Josephine Community Transit bus. Selected artwork will be printed on 54” x 34” vinyl to be displayed on both sides of the bus. Deadline for entries is 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2.

“This public art project is essentially a gallery on wheels,” said Susan Seereiter, business advocate for the city and staff liaison to CoPA.

All artists working in, but not limited to, the following disciplines are invited to submit high resolution images of their work: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, digital graphics, engravings, sculpture, glass, wood, metal/jewelry, ceramics, fiber arts, mixed media, and assemblage.

Video and film, installation art and performance art are not appropriate disciplines for the Art in Motion project.

Qualifying submissions will be considered for two exhibition periods; January through June 2021, and July through December 2021. The work will be selected based on originality, artistic conception, and quality. An effort will be made to represent a broad diversity of styles, media, and disciplines. One or two artists may be chosen for each exhibition period.

“The art is there to engage people, expand public art visibility, create opportunities for the community to experience art in everyday life, and enhance the overall artistic climate of the City of Grants Pass,” Seereiter said.

Artist applicants must submit a minimum of four images to a maximum of six works. All work submitted must be original. Copy work, classwork or work done under supervision does not qualify. Artists are encouraged to select their most dramatic work that would be easily visible from a distance.

Submissions must include image on a compact disc or USB thumb drive storage device, which should be labelled with the artist’s name, accompanied by a hard-copy printout of contact information, artist statement, and inventory of images. Storage devices will not be returned.

Do not send original artwork. Do not enclose binders, folders, or any materials other than the information requested.

Images must be clear and professionally presented in high resolution jpeg format. Quality of the photos and their scalability will be considered during the process to ensure the best possible image for public viewing.

Three-dimensional art pieces should be photographed against a neutral background. The background can be either flat or graded. Each image should be labeled with the artist’s last name, first initial, and entry number.

CoPA may, at its sole discretion, crop or use a fragment of original art to best fit the parameters on the bus display and to increase impact. Artist’s name and title of work will accompany the submission once selected and reproduced. Artist will be notified of selection before placement.

Mail or hand deliver submissions to: Grants Pass City Hall, 101 NW “A” St., Grants Pass, OR 97526 Attn. CoPA.

All artists will be contacted via email with the Art in Motion jurying results within 30 days after the submission deadline.
