[ARCHIVED] New Website Launched Regarding New Water Plant

City Press Release - Get Informed - Old Town Marketplace

GRANTS PASS – The City of Grants Pass Department of Public Works has launched a new website to assist the public in learning about the largest Public Works project in the 134-year history of the city – the Replacement Water Treatment Plant. The $81 million project is in its initial phases at its location on J Street, and the new website answers a variety of questions the public has had about the design-build process.

“We wanted to provide the public with a comprehensive information resource that can be consistently updated with new details as they occur throughout the life of the project,” said Public Works Director Jason Canady.

The new website contains multiple pages of information, including details about the Request For Proposals, a Frequently Asked Questions page, project timeline, information about cost and funding, and city news articles that have been published about the project.

A Background Documents and Reports page provides extensive details about the project and its history dating back to 2011, including inspections and evaluations of the existing plant dating back to 2011. Originally constructed in 1931, current conditions of the 80-year-old existing plant played a very significant factor in the decision o build a new plat to handle the city’s water demands into the future.

“It’s important for the public to know where we have been, the processes we have completed to get to where we are, and where we are going with the future of this project and the safe water needs of this community as it continues to grow,” said Canady.

A Local Engagement page of the website will also provide information to the community with details about the contractor’s plans for engaging the local workforce to maximize benefits to the community. Their goal is to develop and mentor local subcontractors to keep more money in the community while advancing skills of the local workforce.

“Community engagement and local workforce engagement have been an important aspect of the city’s consideration in choosing a design-build contractor for this project. City staff intend to provide regular reports on progress in this area throughout the construction,” Canady said.

For additional information, visit the new website: www.grantspasswater.org. Visitors to the site can also choose to sign up for regular project updates by adding their email address through the link at the bottom right corner of the Home page.
