Art Along the Rogue happens this week

The 20th “Art Along the Rogue” chalk art festival kicks off on October 6, 2023, with a theme of "Blockbusters on the Block." Whether it’s a classic film like "Star Wars" or the latest Indiana Jones movie, artists will use a favorite to fuel their inspiration.

This year, more than 40 artists will be drawing on the streets at 5th and H downtown. Featured artists Evar Galvez and Sharyn Chan will be creating works in 3D.

Since its inception in 2003, Art Along the Rogue has grown into one of Grants Pass' premier community events. This year, more than 20 community sponsors are supporting the artists and festival like never before.

Art Along the Rogue is one of the leading street chalk and music festivals in the state and attracts thousands of visitors to Grants Pass during autumn. This year's festival schedule: Friday, October 6, 5:30 to 9 pm, Saturday, October 7, 9 am to 9 pm, and Sunday, October 8, 10 am to 5:30 pm

On Saturday and Sunday, children can create art free of charge using one of the 1,200 squares available. The 24 square-inch spaces will be marked off by Project Youth Plus on Saturday morning. There will be 450 gift bags of chalk and supplies available for the young artists. Their art does not have to be a literal interpretation; the very act of joyfully creating an original piece on the street is exactly what the event is meant to be about.

Wildlife Images will be at their booth in the Napa parking lot on Saturday and Sunday with ambassador animals.

On Sunday, event-goers can participate in an Interactive scavenger hunt to win a prize. Featured artists will leave a letter in their space that helps spell the phrase the people can submit to win a prize. They can also vote on their choice for “people choice” from the 13 participating featured artists – the winner's piece will be featured on the 2024 festival t-shirt.

Visit Grants Pass, in partnership with the City of Grants Pass, and Travel Oregon, will be installing permanent art in the crosswalk G street on 5th all day Sunday to celebrate our community and the 20th anniversary of Art Along the Rogue. In celebration, we will have “Free Style on G” where community members can express their inner artist. There will be more Kid art squares available on G Street as well.

In addition to two 3D artists this year, Art Along the Rogue will feature 11 sponsored artists drawing in squares ranging from 100 to 144 square feet. Nicole Kleinman will be drawing at Art Along the Rogue for the first time, and the others will be returning from previous years. We’re excited to welcome them all (listed below) and are thankful to their generous sponsors.
