[ARCHIVED] Vine Street Water Main Break

Property Map.jpg

A small handful of City properties in the Northwest are without water this morning following a water main break which occurred on NW Vine Street. Crews were in the area installing a new valve on an adjacent section of pipe when the break occurred. Affected properties are shown on the map attached to this release.

The failure was in a section of 1O" ductile iron pipe which was installed in the mid 1970's. This line has had several smaller failures in the past few years and is currently being evaluated for replacement as part of the Public Works Divisions normal capital replacement program.

Crews have worked around the clock to affect repairs and should be complete around 10:00

A.M.Crews will then initiate a vigorous flushing program to clear the line and ensure that the water is clean and safe.

Affected properties have been notified to boil their water prior to consuming. Bacteria samples will be taken to confirm the lines are clear and safe. Normal service should be restored within 24 hours.

Questions regarding the matter can be directed to the Public Works Department at 541-450-6110.
